PME 800 Week 4 Reflection

Image result for approaching the finish line
Did I achieve this week’s proximal goal?

This week my goal was to finish my website and share the completed website with teachers at my school.
I wanted to receive feedback about the readability and usefulness of the website.

Praise:

  • I found it very visual and informative. It was a place where you can find information about not only what dyslexia is, but how to understand it and many approaches to teach and help students/children learn. I especially like the short videos of information that shared teaching strategies and student voice to their approaches to learning.
  •  There is a lot of great information on here that is easy to access and navigate.I really love how you included videos of what certain teaching strategies look and sound like.
  • Your site looks great.  It's clean and easy to read.  I like how the content is listed in bullet points.  For busy teachers, this is a perfect way to get information quickly and easily.
  • This looks awesome Chelsea! This is an amazing resource to share with teachers. It's very well-designed and easy to read, but also full of good info.
  • Your website was very easy to use and had clear tabs. The information within the tabs has been cited with the source links below to show where you got the information. If I want to know more about the topic, I can use those to research further.
  • Love this as a resource! It is informative and easy to find strategies.
Questions/Suggestions for Improvement:
  • I wonder if it might be helpful to have links to other website and resources to learn, “more”.
  • For the Classroom Environment page, would it be possible to include examples of what these would look like? For example, with the teaching strategy of allowing more time, how much more time should be given? Is there a technique that you use to gauge how much more time a student with dyslexia would need?
  • On the main page, one of your docs isn't showing up.  You may want to take a look at your settings.
  • Do you want to add a contact button, if needed? If not, the only other thing I would consider is adding additional resources or case studies to read more about the topic.
  • Switch Classroom Environment and Teaching Strategies pages. I think the environment page is clean and simple and REALLY great for reminders of how to run an inclusive classroom for all learners. I almost wonder if this should come first? Maybe identification can come later.
  • The homepage is a little busy and the layout could be a little cleaner. I wonder if you could simplify it and house some of the other info under another tab.
  • The strategies page has AMAZING resources, but it is a little hard to navigate. Some of the images I was not familiar with how to read, too. (I can explain this in person
  • Assistive tech page is great. Could you flip the titles so they are on the TOP of the video? This is just a design feature that might be easier on the eye.

What were my challenges?

I felt very focused and productive this week. I was able to meet my goal of working on my project evenly across the week.
I ended up averaging about 1.5 hours per day and about 3 hours this weekend on researching and website design.
The hardest part of the work this week was working to properly cite all of my sources.

How do I need to revise my planning based on what I know now?

Next week, I plan to spend some time reflecting on the feedback I received and will decide what changes
I will make to the website based on this feedback. I plan to look for patterns in the feedback.
