PME 800 Week One Reflection

Did I achieve this week's proximal goal?

This week my goal was to identify five research-based strategies for working with students with Dyslexia. As I began to dive into the research phase of my project I was excited to find an abundance of resources. When I am working to complete this research I am working to keep my target audience in mind. I want to ensure that the strategies and research I share in my final website is easily comprehensible and can be easily implemented in the classroom.

One of the resources I was most excited about was a video called What is Dyslexia? by Kelli Sandman-Hurley. This video presents statistics and brain research about Dyslexia in a highly relatable and comprehensible manner. What I liked most about this resource was that it encourages the view to celebrate the neurodiversity of all humans.

 What were my challenges?

While completing research this week one of my greatest challenges was evaluating resources. When I set my distal learning goal I wanted to identify 10 resources that teachers could use in the classroom to gain a deeper understanding of Dyslexia and identify applicable strategies that could be used in the classroom.

How do I need to revise my planning based on what I know now?

In order to further refine my research goal, I decided that I wanted to include resources from a variety of mediums including written summaries of my research, videos, and pictures. For each resource I am asking myself the question, "How will this help teacher's?".
